Ketika Raja Herodes mendengar hal ini gelisahlah ia dan seluruh Yerusalem bersamanya

Kemudian Herodes diam-diam memanggil orang-orang Majus itu meminta kepastian dari mereka tentang waktu bersinarnya bintang itu

Setelah orang-orang Majus itu pergi lihatlah malaikat Tuhan tampak kepada Yusuf dalam mimpi dan berkata Bangunlah bawa Anak itu bersama ibu-Nya dan larilah ke Mesir Tinggallah di sana sampai Aku berbicara kepadamu karena Herodes ingin mencari Anak itu untuk membinasakan-Nya

Kemudian ketika Herodes melihat bahwa ia sudah diperdaya oleh orang-orang Majus ia sangat murka dan memerintahkan untuk membunuh semua anak laki-laki di Betlehem dan seluruh wilayah di sekitarnya yang berumur dua tahun ke bawah sesuai dengan waktu yang sudah ia pastikan dari orang-orang Majus

Sebab Herodes telah menangkap Yohanes mengikatnya dan menjebloskannya ke penjara karena Herodias istri Filipus saudara Herodes

Namun ketika Herodes mendengarnya dia berkata Yohanes yang telah aku penggal kepalanya telah bangkit

Sebab Yohanes telah berkata kepada Herodes Tidak benar kamu mengambil istri saudaramu

Karena Herodes takut kepada Yohanes setelah dia tahu bahwa Yohanes adalah orang benar dan orang suci Herodes melindunginya Ketika Herodes mendengarkan Yohanes dia sangat bingung tetapi Herodes senang mendengarkan Yohanes

Namun kesempatan tiba ketika pada hari ulang tahunnya Herodes mengadakan sebuah perjamuan untuk para pejabat tinggi perwira dan pemimpin Galilea

Ketika Herodes melihat Yesus ia sangat senang Ia sudah lama ingin bertemu dengan-Nya karena ia sudah mendengar banyak hal tentang Yesus sebab ia berharap bisa melihat suatu mukjizat yang dilakukan oleh Yesus

Bahkan Herodes dan para tentaranya juga merendahkan dan mengejek Yesus Setelah itu mereka memakaikan jubah yang indah lalu mengirim-Nya kembali kepada Pilatus
