Pada saat itu Gaal anak Ebed bersama saudara-saudaranya datang dan pindah ke kota Sikhem Penduduk Sikhem pun percaya kepadanya

Judges 9:28

Gaal anak Ebed berkata Siapakah Abimelekh dan siapakah orang Sikhem sehingga kita harus melayaninya Bukankah dia anak Yerubaal dan Zebul wakilnya Layanilah orang-orang Hemor ayah Sikhem Mengapa kita harus melayaninya

Ketika Zebul penguasa kota itu mendengar perkataan Gaal anak Ebed kemarahannya bangkit

Dia mengirim beberapa pesuruh kepada Abimelekh secara diam-diam dengan pesan Sesungguhnya Gaal anak Ebed dan saudara-saudaranya telah datang ke Sikhem Ketahuilah mereka menghasut kota itu untuk melawanmu

Ketika Gaal anak Ebed keluar dan berdiri di depan pintu gerbang kota Abimelekh dan rakyat yang menyertainya bangkit dari tempat penyergapan
