Ketika pasukan itu kembali ke perkemahan para tua-tua Israel berkata Mengapa hari ini TUHAN mengalahkan kita di hadapan orang Filistin Mari kita mengambil Tabut Perjanjian TUHAN dari Silo supaya Dia datang ke tengah-tengah kita dan menyelamatkan kita dari tangan musuh-musuh kita

Kemudian orang Filistin berperang dan mengalahkan orang Israel sehingga mereka melarikan diri ke tendanya masing-masing Kekalahan itu sangat besar dan di antara bangsa Israel tewas tiga puluh ribu pasukan berjalan kaki
