Di pintu gerbang rumah orang kaya itu berbaringlah seorang miskin bernama Lazarus yang tubuhnya penuh dengan borok

Luke 16:23

Di alam maut saat disiksa orang kaya itu memandang ke atas dan melihat Abraham di kejauhan bersama Lazarus di pangkuannya

Luke 16:24

Dan orang kaya itu berseru Bapa Abraham kasihanilah aku dan suruhlah Lazarus mencelupkan ujung jarinya ke air dan menyejukkan lidahku sebab aku menderita dalam nyala api ini

Luke 16:25

Akan tetapi Abraham berkata Nak ingatlah ketika kamu masih hidup kamu sudah menerima hal-hal yang baik sementara Lazarus menerima hal-hal yang buruk sekarang di sini Lazarus dihibur sementara kamu disiksa

Maria inilah perempuan yang pernah meminyaki kaki Yesus dengan minyak wangi dan menyeka kaki-Nya dengan rambutnya yang saudara laki-lakinya Lazarus saat itu sakit

Yesus memang mengasihi Marta dan saudara perempuannya dan Lazarus

Sesudah Yesus berkata demikian Ia berkata kepada mereka Teman kita Lazarus sudah tidur tetapi Aku akan pergi untuk membangunkan dia

John 11:14

Karena itu Yesus kemudian berkata dengan terus terang kepada mereka Lazarus sudah mati

Setelah mengatakan itu Yesus berseru dengan suara keras Lazarus keluarlah

Di sana telah disiapkan jamuan makan malam untuk Yesus dan Marta sedang melayani tetapi Lazarus adalah salah satu dari mereka yang duduk di meja bersama Yesus

Ketika sejumlah besar orang Yahudi mendengar bahwa Yesus ada di Betania mereka pergi ke sana bukan hanya karena Yesus melainkan juga karena ingin melihat Lazarus yang telah Ia bangkitkan dari kematian
