Judges 7:2

TUHAN berfirman kepada Gideon Rakyat yang menyertaimu terlalu banyak bagi-Ku untuk menyerahkan orang Midian ke dalam tangan mereka Jangan sampai orang Israel menyombongkan diri terhadap Aku sambil berkata Tanganku sendirilah yang menyelamatkan aku

Judges 7:4

Kemudian TUHAN berfirman kepada Gideon Rakyat masih terlalu banyak Bawalah mereka turun ke tempat air Aku akan menyaring mereka di sana Yang Aku katakan kepadamu Inilah yang akan pergi bersamamu dialah yang akan pergi menyertaimu Akan tetapi siapa pun yang Aku katakan kepadamu Inilah orang yang tidak akan pergi bersamamu dialah yang tidak akan pergi

Rakyat pun menyambar jarahannya mengambil kambing domba sapi dan anak sapi disembelih di tanah dan dimakan oleh orang-orang itu dengan darahnya

Kemudian dia berkata kepada seluruh orang Israel Kamu berdiri di sisi yang satu sementara aku dan Yonatan anakku akan berdiri di sisi yang lain Rakyat berkata kepada Saul Perbuatlah apa yang engkau pandang baik

Akan tetapi rakyatnya berkata kepada Saul Haruskah Yonatan mati sementara dialah yang sudah membuat kemenangan yang besar ini bagi Israel Dijauhkanlah yang demikian demi TUHAN yang hidup Tidak akan jatuh sehelai rambut pun dari kepalanya ke bumi Sebab dengan Allah dilakukannya hal itu pada hari ini Rakyat pun membebaskan Yonatan sehingga dia tidak harus dihukum mati

Rakyat menjawabnya sesuai perkataan tadi Begitulah yang akan dilakukan kepada orang yang mengalahkan dia

Daud bertanya kepadanya Apa yang terjadi Ceritakan kepadaku Dia menjawab Rakyat melarikan diri dari pertempuran Bahkan banyak yang gugur dan mati Saul dan Yonatan anaknya juga mati

Tentulah sekarang dia bersembunyi di salah satu lubang atau di salah satu tempat Apabila ada yang tewas pada penyerangan pertama kemudian kabar itu terdengar maka ada yang akan berkata Rakyat yang mengikut Absalom sudah menderita kekalahan

2 Kings 7:20

Demikianlah hal itu terjadi Rakyat menginjak-injaknya di pintu gerbang sehingga dia mati

Namun bukit-bukit pengurbanan tidak dijauhkannya Rakyat itu masih mempersembahkan kurban dan membakar dupa di bukit-bukit pengurbanan
